Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of spiral taping on KI-8 on pain related to dysmenorrhea among women in their twenties.

Method: The subjects were comprised of 54 women in their twenties with dysmenorrhea (study group, n=27; control group, n=27). Study group received spiral taping on their KI-8 and the control group were given naproxen. Pain was measured by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) pre-intervention and after 1, 4, 8, and 24 hours. The Korean Oswestry Disability Index (KODI) were used to measure low back pain with dysmenorrhea, and the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ) were measured. Repeated-measures ANOVA, paired t-tests and independent t-test were used to compare each group pre- and post-intervention, and the groups post-intervention. The statistical s
ignificance was set at ¥á = 0.05.

Results: VAS and NRS significantly improved in the study group all period post-intervention. VAS significantly improved in the control group 1 and 24 hours and NRS, 1 hour post-intervention. VAS, change was not significant 4 and 8 hours and NRS, 4, 8 and 24 hours post-intervention. Between-group comparison, the control group showed a significant improvement 1 hour post-intervention in both two, while VAS, study group showed a significant improvement 4 hours and NRS, 4 and 8 hours post-intervention. KODI and MDQ significant improved in both group. The study group showed a significant improvement compared to the control group.

Conclusion: Spiral taping had a more persistent pain-killing effect, while drugs were more effective in the early stage of menstrual pain.
